Discover Your Perfect Lingerie Fit
The beauty of French lingerie begins with how it feels on you. Lace that follows your silhouette, a cup that sits naturally, a delicate strap adjusted just so. A considered fit allows every detail to become part of your own expression of elegance.
Use this guide as a starting point for choosing your size. European sizes appear first, followed by French and British sizes. Always consult the size guide and fit notes for the individual brand and product: labels, proportions and stretch can vary.
Maison Close Bra Sizes: European, French & British

Understanding Cup Sizes
Cup letters are not interchangeable across every sizing system. British sizing often uses double letters such as DD and FF, while many European and French ranges follow a different sequence. Brands can also use their own labelling conventions.
The UK labels in the Maison Close table above reproduce that brand's chart, including its E labels. Do not treat them as a universal cup conversion for other brands. Check the brand's complete size chart, including its cup-size guidance. Cup volume also changes with band size, so a cup letter alone cannot tell you the fit.
Maison Close Briefs & Ready-to-Wear Sizes
This table follows the Maison Close chart for briefs and ready-to-wear. If you are between sizes, Maison Close recommends choosing the larger size. The measurements below are body measurements in centimetres.
| European (EU) | French (FR) | British (UK) | International |
|---|---|---|---|
| 32 | 34 | 4/6 | XS |
| 34 | 36 | 6/8 | S |
| 36 | 38 | 8/10 | M |
| 38 | 40 | 10/12 | L |
| 40 | 42 | 12/14 | XL |
| 42 | 44 | 14/16 | XXL |
| Size | Bust, fullest | Waist, smallest | Hips, fullest |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 80–84 | 60–63 | 87–90 |
| S | 85–88 | 64–67 | 91–94 |
| M | 89–92 | 68–71 | 95–98 |
| L | 93–96 | 72–75 | 99–102 |
| XL | 97–100 | 76–79 | 103–106 |
| XXL | 101–105 | 80–83 | 107–110 |
These tables are specific to Maison Close. Do not automatically apply them to Atelier Amour or Scandale. For a bodysuit, also check the product's sizing system and torso-length guidance.
Atelier Amour Bra Sizes
Atelier Amour's chart combines international size labels with underbust and bust measurements and French Bra equivalents. The overlapping ranges reflect the brand's listed size coverage, not a one-to-one conversion. All measurements are in centimetres.
| Size | Underbust (cm) | Bust (cm) | French Bra equivalents |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 63–72 | 79–89 | 80B / 85A |
| S | 68–82 | 84–94 | 85B / 90A / 90B / 85C |
| M | 68–82 | 88–96 | 90B / 90C / 95B / 85D |
| L | 73–87 | 93–101 | 100B / 95C / 90D |
| XL | 78–92 | 98–106 | 100C / 95D / 90E |
European and British equivalents are not supplied in this Atelier Amour chart. Use the measurements and French equivalents above rather than applying another brand's conversion. XXL is not listed in this chart.
Atelier Amour Briefs & Thongs
Choose using your hip measurement and the individual design's fit notes. Atelier Amour suggests the larger size for greater comfort when you are between sizes. Do not assume that an S or M has the same measurements as Maison Close.
| Size | Hips (cm) | French (FR) |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 89–93 | 34 |
| S | 94–98 | 36/38 |
| M | 99–103 | 40 |
| L | 104–108 | 42 |
| XL | 109–113 | 44/46 |
This chart does not supply European or British equivalents or an XXL entry. It applies to briefs and thongs, not automatically to bodysuits.
How to Measure
Use a soft measuring tape, keep it level around your body and stand naturally. The tape should sit close without pressing into your skin. Follow any measurement instructions supplied by the brand.
Underbust
Measure around your ribcage directly beneath your bust. Keep the tape comfortably snug. Use this measurement with the brand's chart rather than rounding automatically to a band-size label.
Bust
Measure around the fullest part of your bust without compressing it. If wearing a Bra, choose an unpadded style that does not noticeably alter your shape. Use both bust and underbust measurements when following a brand's Bra guide.
Waist & Hips
Measure your natural waist and the fullest part of your hips. For briefs, consider both measurements and where the waistband is designed to sit. For bodysuits, also check bust measurements and any torso-length guidance.
Finding Your Bra Fit
The band should feel secure and remain approximately level rather than riding up at the back. Cups should accommodate your bust without obvious spilling or excessive empty fabric, taking the design into account.
For an underwired style, the wires should frame the breast rather than press into breast tissue. Adjust straps to support the fit without digging into your shoulders. The way the centre front sits depends on the construction; plunge, wireless and open designs may behave differently.
If the fit feels wrong, changing only the cup may not solve it. Consider the band, cup and shape of the style together.
Choosing Your Brief Fit
A brief should sit comfortably at its intended waist or hip position, without the waistband or leg openings digging in. Lace, tulle and elastic can offer very different amounts of give.
If your measurements fall between sizes, consult the product's fit notes instead of automatically sizing up or down. For Maison Close briefs and ready-to-wear, the chart recommends the larger size. A high-waisted brief, a low-rise thong and an open brief can each fit differently.
Choosing Your Bodysuit Fit
A bodysuit needs to work with the length of your torso as well as your bust, waist and hips. Check for pulling at the shoulders or fastening, and test comfort while sitting and moving.
Underwired bodysuits may use Bra sizing, while other designs use clothing sizes or international size labels. Adjustable straps can refine the fit, but they cannot always compensate for a torso that is too short or too long for the design.
A Note on French Lingerie Brands
When exploring Atelier Amour and Maison Close / Scandale, check how the specific item is labelled and which measurements its guide uses. French brand identity does not mean every product follows the same sizing system.
A soft triangle Bra, an embroidered underwired style and a strappy bodysuit offer different constructions. Let the individual piece guide your choice, not just the size you usually wear.
The Art of a Beautiful Fit
The perfect fit is not a number to aspire to. It is the balance of comfort, proportion and confidence that allows you to enjoy your lingerie as it was intended. Choose the size that feels right for your body, and let the details do the rest.
